15 Hardest Computer Games of All Time

0

Computer games are supposed to be challenging. If they were easy, then there really wouldn’t be any point in playing them. The incentive for us to go out and spend our hard earned money is not lost on the difficulty of some of the most popular offerings out there. We are driven by the desire to beat the machine as well as other players.

This is all very well and good but some games are so hard that it makes you wonder whether the designers have gone a little too far! The list that follows is a run down of some of the hardest games ever.

15. Shenobi

Shenobi starts our list off and it is quite a difficult game. The thing that makes it difficult is that the levels are longer than the average handheld game at 12 minutes compared to the average 5- 6 minutes.

14. Dragon’s Lair

This game first came about in the 1980’s. It was the first computer game to utilise laserdisc. Its difficulty lies in the fact that you have to make the right moves at exactly right moment which is quite a skill to master.

13. Tetris

Another classic from the 80’s, Tetris is challenging due to the amount of blocks that confront you  as you try to reach the top.

12. F- Xero GX

A Nintendo racing game, it challenges your perseverance. The hardest part or rather impossible part of the game is trying to beat the Black Shadow at the end of the story mode.

11. Call of Duty 4

COD4 is the fourth game in the franchise series. It was released in 2007 and has since proved to be a very challenging game. Players find it very hard indeed to defeat the non playing characters that are equipped with unlimited bullets.

10. Zelda 2 : The Adventure of Link

Released by Nintendo, Zelda is a role playing video game. It’s hard mainly due to the fact that you lose all your accumulated experience points every time your character dies. A mass of zombies and the notorious dark maze all make this game a bit of a bugger.

9.  Alien v Predator

This game does not really match up with the technological wizardry of some of the others. It’s a hard game to play when you factor in all the silent and hidden zombies waiting to annihilate you as soon as they can.

8. Super Mario Bros (Lost Level)

This is a classic game which was a main player in the 1980’s. It is extremely hard. The booby trapped power ups serve to make things more difficult but the fact that the Koopa Troopas and Goombas will turn up anywhere makes it a complete hell of a game.

7. Mega Man 9- galaxy Man Stage

A lot of players have found this game particularly hard. It focuses on the android hero ‘Mega Man’. Getting past Dr Willy’s castle is hard enough but then you have the Galaxy Man level which has a trap involving spikes and flying robots dropping from above to kill you. Not a game for the weak.

6.  Super Ghouls n Ghosts

This game is literally a bitch. There are deaths galore in this one but what makes it hard is the fact you have to complete it twice. After successfully getting through the first stage and reaching the princess, she then sends you back to the start. So much for your efforts!

5.  Devil May Cry 3 (PS2)

In the previous versions, the bosses were beatable although quite difficult. However this one is another story. Dante Must Die mode is so hard that players generally just give up!

4.  Ikaruga

This game is hard because it seems impossible to get to the second level without dying many many times. Added to the difficulty is the small camera angle and the fact you cannot shoot the final boss.

3.  PS3 Demon’s Souls

This is one tough game. It’s a relentless attack on your senses which doesn’t let you pause for breath. What makes it even harder is the publishers once plunged the whole environment into darkness which made collecting any rewards practically impossible.

2. Ninja Gaiden Black – Alma2- Hard

This game has been described as pure evil. It really doesn’t give a damn who you are. It is super intensive and designed to make you crap your pants. The game is hard enough with the multiple gang attacks and never ending deaths but the real threat is the ninja boss Alma. This one won’t hesitate in throwing a giant marble pillar on top of your head.

1. Battletoads

Getting to the number one spot is this 1990’s sod. Nothing get’s harder than Battletoads. It seems to have been designed just to be hard. This game is really a two person event as there is so much going on you have to have eyes in the back of your head as well as everywhere else. Volkmire’s Inferno Level is a brutal speed fest where you just cannot win by utilising mere skill. You just have to go for it and hope for the best!
